James Brown asked: It is sometimes too tough to learn guitar when you are honestly not inclined to the instrument or even music per se. You will face many set backs and troubles while doing so. However if you successfully hurdle through it, there is no doubt that you will succeed in learning how to play the instrument. Erase the idea of failing from your mind because if you start learning guitar with this kind of outlook most probably you will really fail for sure. It is time to give yourself some strong convictions so that you could achieve something that you could be proud of. Let us see some few things you can do to ensure your success.
One, you search for motivation and inspiration. People, your loved ones or maybe even just listening to acoustic music will keep you motivated. If you hear one song that is totally captivating, do not ignore the fact that you would want to play the same and this is already a good start. You can motivate yourself for that matter without depending on anyone to motivate you. But it is all too well if you have someone who encourages you in doing just as that.
Two, you stay in an enlightened manner where you believe you can. The power of positive thinking will really work if you keep it that way. The stronger your belief that you can do it, the more you can achieve even the unachievable. That is direct way of saying that there is really nothing impossible if you just keep telling yourself that you can. Always remind yourself that guitar learning is just an easy challenge that you will conquer sooner or later depending on how slow or fast your learning pace is.
Three, devise a time table for you to regularly practice what you already know and will yet to know. In other words, just like a baseball player keep exercising for his game and even without game, it is similar time table for you too. You have to keep exercising and doing until you come to a point where you have already mastered one aspect of guitar player and once you achieve this then it is now time to go up into the next level. Believe me, no one can take your there except yourself.
Four, always imagine yourself succeeding this hurdle and eventually you will be because sometimes our outlook will lead us to success. You just have to keep looking forward and see to it that you are not distracted. Keep focusing in achieving your pre-set goal and your outlook will see to it that you will arrive there. Do not give up half-way there because the time you spend thinking and thinking without doing is a time wasted when you could have spent it on learning.
Five, other people will tend to be better than you. Do not be discouraged when you see someone who can play beautifully like a pro. Instead, use this as a tool for you to achieve success.

Jon Broderick asked: Guitarists are insatiable learners and the world is full of great guitar learning material. First of all, there are countless tablature books which show you in the easy-to-learn guitar tablature format how to play all your favorite songs even if you can’t read sheet music. If you can read sheet music, then there is sheet music available for every popular artist and thousands of classical and lesser-known composers. There are also “method books” that teach how to play a particular style, and there are instructional guitar DVDs that show you and tell you everything a single guitarist knows how to do. There are books with CDs full of audio examples, there are DVDs that come with tablature books; the list of available guitar learning resources is endless.
Guitar lessons are still the number one way that guitarists pick up new information. In-person guitar lessons with a local guitar teacher are probably the most effective way to learn new things about the guitar. The world is full of part-time and full-time guitar teachers, who put their heart and soul into teaching their students how to be an ever-improving guitar learning machine. Guitar teachers are expensive, however, and not everyone has the money or the time to commit to in-person lessons. So while this is a truly effective method, it is not for everyone.
Over the last 5 years, online guitar lessons have become an outstanding resource for guitarists wanting to learn guitar at a convenient pace and at very low cost. In my opinion, online guitar lessons have come of age, and are now the best tool for learning guitar available to anyone anywhere. I don’t propose that online guitar lessons should supplant books, sheet music, DVDs, and in-person guitar lessons. What I would like to suggest is that online guitar lessons are more convenient, cheaper, more useable, and provide more breadth of information than any other method available.
Convenience: Tablature books are OK, as long as they come with some audio examples. DVDs are OK, as long as they come with a book. The problem is that keeping your place in the book and your place on the CD/DVD in synch is difficult. Every time you take a break (every day basically) you lose your place and have to synch up all over again. Online guitar lessons, on the other hand, solve the problem of synching the tab, explanation, and audio/video samples. A web page is the ultimate guitar lesson format: audio, video, and text all together in one document.
Price: Books and DVDs have to be manufacturer, shipped, and inventoried. If you have ever burned a CD or made some copies at a copy shop, you know that manufacturing a product costs real money. Imagine if you had to turn around and sell your product at a profit? Shipping a book or DVD to the retailer is another expense in traditional publishing that occurs before the product is even ready to be sold. Inventory, the hidden expense, can be the largest: every month the book sits in the store, it costs the owner a percent of the price to pay for it to be kept out of the rain, and if the inventory is bought on credit, there is interest on the loan as well. All told, it is no wonder there are few places that sell guitar lesson products even in a large city.
Breadth: Guitar books generally can only have a few hundred pages; DVDs can only hold a couple of hours of video. A web site can expand to the size of a whole library full of books and DVDs. This is one aspect of the size advantage of online guitar lessons, but the more important aspect is this: getting a book published is so difficult, that many great guitarists simply never try it. Publishing a web site is so easy that many fantastic guitarists who would never previously have published their knowledge can now publish their guitar lessons online where you can find them.
As you can see, online guitar lessons have significant advantages that should make them an important part of any guitarist’s learning strategy. As the internet continues to grow, and the use of video on the internet spreads, look for online guitar lessons to one day be the recognized leader in helping guitarists improve their skills in a convenient, inexpensive way.

Learning guitar can be fun and easy. You can even learn how to play guitar right in the comfort of your own home. There are so many different programs that help you learn guitar. Some people learn how to play guitar on their own, however the majority of people are not able to learn guitar on their own without any help. At the top of this site I have posted a link that will take you step by step in learning the guitar. I have found many of my students say the guitar lessons really excelled them in their ability to learn guitar.
In the beginning it is good to have patience. Start out learning a few cords and then practice them. Weather you want to play country or rock knowing simple cords is the key to getting started.
Once you have mastered a few cords keep learning more and more. Then you can begin to use variations of these cords to play songs you know or write new ones. This is some of the steps in learning how to play guitar.
I have had my students try different course programs that help them to learn guitar. One good thing about the courses you can take from home is that you decide when you want to take you guitar lessons. You can also decide how many times you want to repeat a guitar lessons.
This gives you flexibility and now time is on your side and learning guitar fits into any schedule. Most of my new students learn guitar basics and are already playing songs by the end of a weekend. Learning guitar is always easer than the person thinks. People of all ages can achieve many different levels when they decide to learn how to play guitar.
You can learn electric and acoustic guitar with this course. I will be reviewing another course for those people who really want to get the most out of their guitar lessons. For now I have found at least one very good course.

To look at the many commercial guitar websites out there, you’d swear a Satriani was being born every minute. The sites scream out at you – “play like a pro”, “insider secrets revealed”, “master guitar in 30 days guaranteed”… Amazing. In fact, all the guitar systems out there seem to be “guaranteed”. But “guaranteed to” what? Have you play like a pro? Have you play a song start to finish?
Actually, they’re guaranteed to the extent that if you return them within a specified time-frame, you’ll be refunded your money. That’s it. That’s all. There’s no actual guarantee that you will play guitar. There can’t be. You’re a human being. There’s no guarantee on anything.
That’s not to say that you shouldn’t aspire to learn guitar. It’s the most wonderful instrument in the world. Go into any local music store and watch the wizards wail, on electric or acoustic. Will you get there? That’s not certain. There are so many variables:
your natural musical inclination
your manual dexterity
your musical ear
Those are some of nature’s gifts (or lack of) which will affect the outcome. Then there are the more physical, down-to-earth factors:
your budget
your time constraints
the rest of your life outside guitar
Everyone would love to play the guitar at some point in their life. That’s a fact. The ultimate level of one’s success on guitar is dependent on all the above factors and more. Lessons are never a bad idea, if you can afford them. Practice, of course, is the only way to improve. Teaching aids such as those found on the internet can be a help. Watching guitarists (and musicians generally) in action can be an eye-opener and motivator. What it all adds up to is – there’s no guarantee.
But what about those novices or frustrated players who just can’t seem to find the zone? Where the very basics of the instrument seem to be a hindrance. All of the books, all of the coaching, all of the websites and their systems and aids, that don’t seem to help. Where progress is limited. Those are the ones I love to pick up. I’ve seen them all. From housewives, to six year-olds, to frustrated veterans, even good guitarists who just want to get better. I’ve got the way that is actually different.

Embryonic, The Flaming Lips 12th album, is coming out this year. It seems like a perfect time to look back at the best albums The Flaming Lips have recorded and released so far. These are their best seven (in chronological order) to date. Will Embryonic replace one of these?
In a Priest Driven Ambulance (1990) – This album took what The Lips were doing in the 1980s and to the next level. In my opinion it’s their first good album (I know some old school Lips fans love their ’80s stuff, but not me.)
Hit to Death in the Future Head (1992) – I personally prefer this one over Priest Driven Ambulance. It’s a crazy album with a lot of really experimental songs.
Transmission from the Satellite Heart (1993) – This is the album that first brought them widespread attention. This is almost entirely because of the song “She Don’t Use Jelly” which is actually one of their least impressive songs in my opinion. Of course, it often works out that way, doesn’t it?
Clouds Taste Metallic (1995) – I think this is the album that works as sort of the encapsulation of the best of the previous three albums. If you are wanting to start digging into the Lips back catalog after first being introduced to the band with their more recent work, this is probably the album to start with.
Zaireeka (1997) – This is the Lips at their most experimental. The album actually consists of four CDs which are meant to be played simultaneously. This creates more of a “music experience” than just simply listening to an album. It’s not for everyone, but for those who get it, it’s a true masterpiece.
The Soft Bulletin (1999) – My favorite Lips album to date. It’s just about as perfect as psychedelic pop rock music can get. It’s experimental yet classic at the same time.
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002) – When this came out it was an entirely new direction for the band and it still stands apart from the rest of their best albums. It’s great, but you shouldn’t let it be the only album by The Flaming Lips that you really check out.
